Sampling the world #3: Buenos Aires and Lausanne by Arthur Henry featuring a DJ set by Madeleine Leclair
Thursday 18 January, 18:00
Presentation of two new videos by Arthur Henry and DJ set by Madeleine Leclair. Café du MEG. Thursday 18 January, 6-8.30pm.
The Museum of Ethnography Geneva (MEG) and the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation (MJAF) are joining forces for a series of musical evenings entitled "Échantillonner le monde" (Sampling the World), presented by Neuchâtel sound artist Arthur Henry and featuring the ambitious video series "Sampling the World" that he launched in 2022 (https://arthur-henry.com/). Equipped with microphones and recording devices, Arthur Henry stops off in different cities around the world to capture the sound traces of everything he comes across, from rubbish bins to trams, birds and, of course, the people who live there. For each of the "Sampling the World" evenings, Arthur Henry presents a sound portrait of a city that he has created. His presentation is followed by a listening session of recordings related to the theme, taken from the International Archives of Folk Music (IAFM). The selection for this third edition is made by Madeleine Leclair, Curator of the Department of Ethnomusicology.
The "Échantillonner le monde" evenings will be held in the MEG Café during the Nuits des Bains.
To mark the occasion, the Museum's permanent exhibition room will be open to the public until 8.30pm.
