For an hour and a half, guest artists take us on a musical journey with their personal selections. MEG foyer. Sunday 16 November from 6.15pm to 7.45pm.

Event formerly scheduled at MEG and moved to Espace Orangerie. The screening before the DJ set has been cancelled.

The MEG is teaming up with El Elegante for a musical evening based around the temporary exhibition ‘Afrosonica – Soundscapes’.
Founder of the first picó* installed in Paris, ‘El Elegante, la maquina del ritmo’. Originally from Cartagena, she was raised on the warm rhythms of the Colombian Caribbean coast. Her 100% vinyl sets evoke nostalgia for a time when all it took was a picó (or sound system) on the street corner to create a neighbourhood party or verbena. Her inspiration comes from the street, from uninhibited, no-frills celebrations. From her love for popular music of yesterday and today, dancing barefoot to the rhythm of good salsa, charanga, merengue, soukous, highlife, cumbia, bullerengue, boogaloo and other Afro-rooted, Latin-folk Latin/Afro-jazz genres.

*Picó are customised sound systems in the working-class neighbourhoods of the Colombian Caribbean coast. Walls of sound to liven up free parties or verbenas (block parties). The El Elegante evening highlights the connection between Africa and the Caribbean: Latin grooves, Afro-Caribbean psychedelia & vintage tropicalism.

In collaboration with FILMAR in Latin America.
