Tour "Let's talk about it" with Laurent Koelliker, sautier de la République de Genève.

Sunday 4 June 2023, 14:30

Bourgeons du marronnier de la treille à Genève 2023

A journey during which we question our relationship with the living world, with each time a guest who brings us his or her point of view. Temporary exhibition. Sunday 4 June from 2.30 to 3.30 pm.

What is a living being? Am I independent or dependent on the nature around me? Do trees communicate with us? What do they tell us? How does nature inform us about climate change? Starting with questions we have about our relationship with living things, we will visit the exhibition "Being together" and then take the time to share with each other the questions we have asked ourselves.
Guest: Laurent Koelliker is the 15th sautier of the Republic of Geneva and one of his duties is to announce spring to the people of Geneva. This astonishing task is accomplished by following the blossoming of the first leaf of the city's official chestnut tree. A significant gesture that is rooted in the history of the Canton. Initially a rural guard, the sautier became, with urban development, a representative of the judiciary, and then took on the role of secretary general of the cantonal parliament. In Geneva, the sautier was an independent civil servant and a guarantor of the stability of the Grand Council. In the past, it was said that he had to have "an eye" on the life of the Canton, so it was his job to watch over the official chestnut tree and to designate its successor when the tree died.
