This album brings together four original creations by KMRU, Yara Mekawei, Midori Takada, and Ntshepe Tsekere Bopape (Mo Laudi), commissioned for the exhibition Afrosonica – Soundscapes, presented in 2025 at the MEG (Museum of Ethnography of Geneva). The tracks are stereo versions of multichannel works featured in the exhibition.
Depot revisits the MEG's sound archives, weaving a web of resonances between past and present, and questioning the aesthetics and legacy of colonial archives. Mémoire d’arbres creates a dialogue between a Senufo xylophone from the MEG’s collection and a synthesizer. The Shrine brings together chants and invocations inspired by Sufi spirituality. Daughters of the Dust. Sons of the Soil (Part 2) blends electronic sounds with traditional sonic elements from Pedi and Ndebele women’s mural-making rituals.
Each piece offers, in its own way, a space for reflection on time, transmission, and the invisible threads that connect diverse sonic landscapes.
More than a mere extension of the exhibition, this album offers an autonomous, sensory, and polyphonic listening experience — a journey through shifting soundscapes where resonance and creation meet.
