Series of lectures: Dance and the memory of music
Wednesday 24 April, 16:30
Master's lecture in ethnomusicology. Presented by Anne NGuyen. Auditorium. Wednesday 24 April at 4.30pm.
There is no such thing as a hip-hop 'gesture': urban social dances are imbued with their original musical universe, which is itself inseparable from a historical and cultural context. In most traditional or urban social dances, a rhythm corresponds to a dance and celebrates an event or an intention. If the dance carries the memory of the music, the music carries the memory of the dance. In multicultural urban contexts, how do dance and music mesh?
Anne Nguyen is a dancer, choreographer of the Compagnie par Terre, author and director.
